BUSINESSES are being warned to be wary of accepting packages they did not order.

PC Petcare in Miry Lane, Thongsbridge, took delivery of a box of till rolls and has now been ordered to pay £210 for them. The rolls usually cost just £28.

Shop owner Royston Rogers was stunned when he got the bill.

"We were expecting some till rolls to come so it was not a shock when we actually got them. It was when we got the bill - I could not believe my eyes," he said.

"I managed to find an address and number for the firm that had sent them called Paper Roll Logistics.

"There was an address for a unit in Stockport but the general number was in Quebec, Canada.

"I left a message and they rang me back saying I would have to pay."

But Mr Rogers said the only contact they had with the firm before the delivery was when they rang up and asked a member of staff to confirm the address.

"I am not paying and I have told them that. I will go to court. And if they really want to take it all the way, I will go to prison," he said.

Now Tory Colne Valley candidate Maggie Throup is calling for businesses in the area to be on their guard.

Ms Throup said: "Royston contacted me and I was amazed at what had happened.

"It seems they did get a call from a firm asking them to confirm their address but nothing more - then a few days later this parcel arrived.

"We have tried to get in touch with the company but we are having great trouble tracking them down. There is no answer at the number when you ring it and the company is not mentioned at all on the internet, which is strange.

"Royston is refusing to pay and I don't blame him. I guess if they had been delivered and just been the usual price he would probably just have paid for them.

"I am not sure if this company is legitimate or not but I can't find out anything about it. I think people need to be very careful when they take delivery of something."

The Examiner attempted to contact Paper Roll Logistics in Canada but no-one was available for comment.
