AN ABSENT-MINDED man sparked a bomb alert after browsing in a Huddersfield shop.
The 62-year-old forgot his briefcase and left it behind a pillar at Marks and Spencer on the Piazza.
The briefcase was found at 2.40pm yesterday and worried staff immediately evacuated the store.
Police then sealed off the entire Piazza, moved people away from the area and diverted buses away from Ramsden Street.
Paramedics and firefighters were alerted and stood by throughout the drama.
Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "The briefcase seemed like it had been concealed behind a pillar and it looked so unusual it was decided to evacuate Marks and Spencer.
"A 62-year-old man approached the cordon about 50 minutes later and asked if he could pick his briefcase up.
"He was taken into the store to confirm it was his and the situation was resolved."
