SHOPPERS fled from a Mirfield supermarket after a generator caught fire.
Staff and customers were evacuated from the Co-op store in Huddersfield Road after the fire drama at 11.37am today. No one was hurt.
The electrical generator at the back of the store set ablaze, spreading to the main store building. It is believed store rooms and offices were damaged. Flames burned a hole in the roof.
Almost 20 firefighters attended the scene. Crews from Dewsbury, Mirfield, Brighouse and Huddersfield turned out.
Mirfield Coronation Dance Festival, a morris dancing celebration, was being held nearby and organisers rushed to raise the alarm and help evacuate the store.
