A SHEFFIELD post office owner described today how a sawn-off shotgun went off as he wrestled a masked raider to the ground.
Sukhbir Singh Dhillon was working at his shop when two men burst in armed with the gun and a sledgehammer.
Police today praised Mr Dhillon, his 25-year-old son Mark and a passer-by who tackled the gunman despite the weapon going off twice, blasting a hole in the floor.
The raider escaped when his accomplice attacked Mr Dhillon and his son with the hammer.
"It was a very frightening experience," said 53-year-old Mr Dhillon.
"There were a lot of customers in the shop at the time and my family were behind the counter. I had to do something."
He went on: "I was surprised when the gun went off but I had hold of the barrel."
South Yorkshire Police said the incident happened on Christmas Eve at Stradbroke Road post office in south Sheffield
