Where should lap dancing clubs be based? It’s something Kirklees Council wants to know as it assesses new legislation on sexual entertainment venues.

A government consultation highlighted concerns that existing legislation did not give communities sufficient powers to control lap dancing clubs.

So the council has launched a questionnaire which asks where sexual entertainment venues should and shouldn’t be located.

A Kirklees statement says: “A government consultation has highlighted concerns that communities do not have enough power to control lap dancing clubs and similar venues

“Because of this the Policing and Crime Act 2009 was amended giving local authorities the option of more control to regulate these types of venues as sex establishments.

“Kirklees Council are consulting with the public on whether or not to use the new legislation.”

The council’s current policy is not to limit the number of licensed sexual entertainment venues, but instead to deal with each application on a case by case basis.

People can have a say be visiting www2.kirklees.gov.uk/involve/entry.aspx?id=714 or calling the licensing department on 01484 4568687 for details to be sent through the post.
