A PLAY about the over-50s is going ahead in Huddersfield after a theatre company won a £5,000 grant.
Huddersfield-based Yellow Leaf Theatre will stage Modelling Spitfires at the town's Lawrence Batley Theatre from May 6 to 8.
The show has been boosted with a grant from Arts Council England.
The play is from a text by Bafta Award- nominated Vanessa Rosenthal and tackles issues that affect the senior generation.
Chris Wilkinson, one of three members of Yellow Leaf,
said: "Modern plays don't tend to focus on older generations.
"Our theatre focuses on these issues, which are often ignored but also appeal to all ages."
The Arts Council has given £13,250 to Brighouse-based puppet theatre company The Wright Stuff, which works with 13 to 19-year-olds on issues affecting them.
The money will go towards help with marketing and fundraising.
Batley-based artist Julian Flynn has been awarded more than £700 to produce prints of his photographic studies of the self-portrait.
His work will be developed into an exhibition and book.
And £750 goes to Kirklees composer Christopher Fox, who is writing a musical work for six unaccompanied singers.
He aims to bring the Old Testament book of Daniel to life through medieval song.
A touring production will begin in May.
