A SIKH community leader took a leap of faith to boost a children’s charity.

Inderpal Randhawa raised £1,000 when he took part in an abseil at Huddersfield University earlier this month.

He joined other members of the public, students and staff in the 100ft descent down the Central Services Building.

Money raised from the event was donated to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Brackenhall which supports children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Mr Randhawa presented his contribution to the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Eric Firth, at Huddersfield Sikh Temple at Prospect Street.

He said: “I’d never done anything like the abseil before and when I looked down it was scary and the wind was making it worse.

“But I was committed and I prepared for my descent by remembering almighty God and that I was doing this for a noble cause.”

Members of the Sikh community, Mr Randhawa’s colleagues at First Bus and customers at his business Linthwaite Mini Market all supported the fundraiser.

He added: “I’d like to thank everybody for their contribution and commitment to the cause of the wellbeing of children in our society.”
