Police were called to a bust up at a Sikh Temple in Huddersfield.

A large number of officers were sent to the Temple at Springwood on Sunday, after reports of a large-scale disturbance.

It is understood the row centred on forthcoming elections at the Temple.

Insp Jonathan Dunkerley, of the Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Shortly after 11am on Sunday, officers responded to calls of an altercation at the Sikh Temple on Prospect Street, Huddersfield.

“As a result of this call, complaints of assault were made and two men were arrested. One man has since been charged with common assault and the other remains on police bail. Our investigation is ongoing.

“These incidents took place inside the building and we will be working closely with partners and all members of the Temple to resolve these matters. Reassurance patrols will be continuing in the area and the police will deal fairly, positively and proportionately with any complaints made”.
