PEOPLE of all faiths held a silent vigil in Huddersfield in support of hostages held in Iraq.

They gathered at the Hafinia Mosque in Bentley Street, Lockwood, last night.

Members of Huddersfield Interfaith Council gathered for the appeal to release four peace workers, including Briton Norman Kember.

Kiran Bali, the interfaith council's chairwoman, said: "Members of all the faith communities are deeply concerned for the four kidnapped members of the Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraq.

"We appeal to those responsible for the kidnappings for the safe return of these four peace workers."

She added: "Each of the world's great religions places an emphasis on respecting the dignity of human life, and love of neighbour.

"As people of faith we believe that we must make it clear that we share these common values."
