WE are not alone ... it seems

Examiner readers from as far apart as Ripponden and Denby Dale claim to have seen a UFO at the same time last weekend.

At first residents from the Holme Valley came forward saying they had seen a bright orange light floating in the sky at about 11pm on Sunday.

And on Tuesday more people from Dalton and Slaithwaite contacted us confirming they too had seen a mysterious orange glow.

One reader managed to capture video footage of the bright lights over Dalton and uploaded it to video website Youtube.

The witnesses say the object stopped and started and many refuse to believe the glow could be a Chinese firefly lantern, the culprit behind previous alleged UFO sightings.

Paul Greenaway, who lives in remote Soyland near Ripponden, said he saw the lights zooming towards Halifax.

He said: “It took two minutes to travel across the valley. It looked like a plane on fire but without the trail.

“It went straight as a die with no sound as it passed over me.”

Mr Greenaway said he had recovered some burnt out lanterns from his land but added: “If it is a Chinese lantern it’s the fastest one ever seen.”

Readers John and Hilary Shaw also saw the lights moving north over Marsden.

Dawn Ward from Golcar said she too had witnessed the fire-like glow and had seen it before, a month ago.

Ms Ward added: “On Sunday much the same happened apart from the fact that some fireworks were going off and the bright orange light seemed to head towards these as if it was inspecting them but then again it suddenly disappeared.”

Chris Howard said: “I was at Salendine Nook on Saturday night and saw what we assumed were a number of Chinese lanterns pass overhead.

“We assumed it had something to do with the Concert on the Hill at the YMCA ground, as we saw them around the same time as the firework display.”
