SINGER Jon Lonergan has been crowned a `pub idol' in a music competition.

Jon, a student from Ravensthorpe, was one of four singers - the other three were from Huddersfield - who sang their way through weeks of heats to reach the final of the Pub Idol talent contest at The Barge at Brighouse.

The final was compered by Mike Jones, of Bradford music magazine Innscene.

The other three in the final were Rachel Moscrop, from Taylor Hill; Angel Wade, of Sheepridge; and Jenna Iredale, from Taylor Hill.

However, Jenna pulled out at the last minute because of ill- health.

Rachel, who works for Halifax Estates Agents in Huddersfield, sang I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman by Britney Spears and White Flag by Dido.

Angel, a student, sang Love Of A Lifetime, by Honeyz, and Rescue Me by Fontella Bass.

Jon wowed judges with Woman Trouble by Artful Dodger and Colourblind by Darius.

He won £150 and a three-hour professional recording session in Huddersfield's HD1 Studios.

Rachel and Angel tied for second and received £100 each.
