A WORLD famous brass band and a 1970s hitmaker are joining forces for a special concert in aid of a Huddersfield park.

The Black Dyke Mills Band will be joined by singer/songwriter Peter Skellern for a matinee benefit concert in aid of Beaumont Park.

Peter's hits included You're A Lady, Hold On To Love and Love Is The Sweetest Thing.

All the money raised by the concert, at Huddersfield Town Hall on Sunday, March 19, will go towards developing new musical and entertainment facilities in the historic green space.

Friends of Beaumont Park spokesman Andrew Kitchen said they were delighted the Black Dyke Band could squeeze in another concert in their busy 150th season.

He said: "Having even greater entertainment diversity in this concert, now Peter has joined the team, will give the afternoon even more of a sense of celebration.

"One day we hope to stage events in Beaumont Park offering terrific musical variety - wider, more regularly and even more successfully than in recent years.

"This Victorian park once had a magnificent wooden pagoda-style bandstand and a heritage of music in the park.

"We're looking for ways to one day restore that musical heritage - and opportunities for local musicians across the vast musical range."
