A musician from Brighouse is singing the praises of our servicemen and women thanks to the launch of a fundraising single.

Roger Davies has released his new song, Wear Your Poppy with Pride, to raise money for the Royal British Legion appeal.

The song was composed last November especially for the pupils of Shelley First School who sang it at their school service.

Roger said: “I was asked by the headteacher, Debra Knowles, to write a song for the children to sing at the St Emmanuel Church service in Shelley but since it’s been so well received by audiences at my concerts and whenever I’ve played it live on the radio I thought the song would be able to make a positive contribution if it was released as a CD.

“I contacted my local Poppy Appeal office and they embraced the idea. I’m very pleased and proud that all proceeds from sales of the CD and digital download will be donated to the appeal.”

Wear Your Poppy with Pride is the latest release from the popular songwriter who performs at concerts across the UK.

Ms Knowles said: “I wanted the children to work with a musician. I knew of Roger’s work and asked him to come in. He wrote Wear Your Poppy with Pride and the children got a lot out of it.

“Roger contacted me recently to say that it was going to become an official fundraiser. He had written it for us and we are going to be singing it at the church on Sunday at the service from 10am-11am.

“We will be singing that song and the choir will sing a Mike Harding number Christmas Eve 1914. Roger has inspired the children and they are very excited about what’s happening.”

Copies of the CD single will be available from selected Poppy Appeal stalls in supermarkets and town centres throughout Yorkshire as well as on iTunes here.
