LINDLEY Operatic Society members Peter and Joan Bywater are celebrating their golden wedding today.
Mr and Mrs Bywater, of Celandine Avenue, Salendine Nook, both sang with the society for many years. Mr Bywater was also chairman and general manager for 18 years.
The couple were choristers at Lindley Parish Church for many years and Mr Bywater sang at Newsome Parish Church.
The couple were brought up in Newsome.
They met when they were eight years old as they were living in neighbouring streets, Mr Bywater in Newsome Avenue and his wife-to-be in Towngate.
They went on family holidays together to Bridlington.
Mr Bywater, 73, worked as an engineer and in sales for David Brown's at Lockwood and Meltham.
Mrs Bywater, also 73, was an admissions clerk at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for 25 years.
The couple have two daughters and three grandchildren.
They are celebrating with a party for family and friends at home.
Mr Bywater has been a member of the Thornhill Masonic Lodge at Lindley for 33 years.
