SIX teenagers accused of killing Birkby taxi driver Mohammad Parvaiz have gone on trial.

They appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday.

Four of the defendants - two aged 17, one 16 years old and one aged 18 - cannot be named for legal reasons.

The other two defendants are Christopher Murphy, 18, and Michael Hand, 19.

An order has been made preventing the publication of all the defendants' addresses.

All six teenagers are charged with the murder of married father-of-three Mr Parvaiz on July 22 this year.

The 41-year-old died when he was attacked after being called in his Lockwood Taxis car to Field Head in Golcar.

Christopher Murphy, Michael Hand and the 16-year-old defendant are also charged with committing violent disorder on July 22, 2006.

It is alleged that they used or threatened unlawful violence in a way that would have made a reasonable person fear for their safety.

The charges were put to the defendants after a jury of seven men and five women had been sworn in yesterday afternoon.

Adrian Waterman QC will open the prosecution case today.
