DEVELOPERS want to build 60 flats on the site of a former band-room.

Calderdale Council planners will decide next Tuesday whether to back the plans for the former Borough Band Club on Wharf Street, Brighouse.

Younger Homes (Northern) want to create 60 flats in a seven- storey, V-shaped building, with 60 parking spaces on ground floor level.

Access would be from Wharf Street and the Top Basin Bridge.

A report to Calder- dale's planning committee says the building was last used as the Borough Band Club around 1991.

It is decaying and surrounding land is overgrown and littered.

Brighouse Borough Band folded in the early 1900s, but the bandroom was used as a social venue until around 1991.

A planning application for alterations and extensions to form a pub, restaurant, banqueting hall and hotel on the same site is valid until October.

A renewal application been submitted by Younger Homes.

Planners look set to approve the plans, subject to Younger Homes paying towards affordable housing in the area, in line with council policy.
