THONGSBRIDGE couple Wilf and Audrey Smith have just celebrated their diamond wedding.
The couple, of Miry Lane, have lived in the area for the last 11 years.
The couple – pictured now and on their wedding day – are both originally from the Doncaster area.
They met at a joint social evening for the Air Training and Girls’ Training Corps in Armthorpe.
Mr Smith, now 79, was a bandsman with the Middlesex Regiment for seven-and-a-half years.
He then worked in engineering and inspection, retiring from Crompton Parkinsons in Doncaster after 22 years as chief inspector.
Mrs Smith, 78, also worked in engineering inspection and as a cashier. She worked at Crompton Parkinsons for 13 years as an inspector.
They have a son and daughter and three grandchildren.
They travel regularly with Holme Valley choir Vocal Expressions, with which their daughter and grand-daughter both sing.
Before living in Thongsbridge the couple lived in Florida for two years. They also lived in Hong Kong during Mr Smith’s career with the Army.
They are members of the Kirklees Pals group, which encourages an active lifestyle.
