A THIEF escaped with a youngster's skateboard after falsely accusing him of taking a dustcap from his bike.

The 13-year-old victim was at the skateboard area of Greenhead Park when he was approached by a gang of youths between 5.45pm and 6.45pm on Tuesday.

The gang leader asked for a go on the victim's skateboard and in return he let the youngster have a ride on his silver BMX bike.

But when they swapped back, he claimed the youngster had taken a dustcap.

He told him to hand over some money and then walked off with the victim's skateboard too.

The thief was African-Caribbean, aged 14 or 15, 5ft 2in and skinny with a deep voice and dreadlocks that were about 3in long. He wore a blue hooded zip-up top and blue tracksuit bottoms.

The youth was with four or five white boys aged from 10 to 15.
