A MAN woke up to find an intruder in his bedroom.
The 52-year-old had been working nights and woke up at 1pm on Sunday to find the burglar in front of him at his house on Barcroft Road, Newsome.
The thief said Kirklees Council had sent him to clean the house, but the victim took him downstairs and said he was calling the police.
The intruder said he had a friend outside who would vouch for him, so the victim opened the door.
A man appeared at the garden gate.
The victim locked the door, with the intruder inside, and nipped to the toilet.
But while he was there, the thief escaped through a living room window.
The victim later discovered his wallet and some other money had been stolen.
The crime is the latest in a spate of burglaries in the Newsome area.
The burglar is white, in his late teens, around 5ft 10in tall and slim.
He had long, black hair combed forward and a square chin.
