THE Green Party pledged to put social justice and sustainability at the heart of its policies.

These aim to safeguard the environment in the long term, said leading spokesman Keith Taylor.

At today's manifesto launch in London he said: "The Green manifesto sets out long-term, realistic and radical policies for a more just and sustainable society, which places people and the planet at its heart.

"The big three parties have followed agendas of `privatise and pollute'.

"These have left carbon dioxide levels soaring, local economies decimated and public services sold to profiteering private companies.

"Successive governments' neglect of public transport has left vital services out of reach to many people," he added.

"Our tax reforms will raise billions for public services. The £30bn saved by scrapping roadbuilding schemes will rebuild the public transport network."
