There will be some sun this week after Saturday’s soggy washout.

And looking even further ahead there may even be a heatwave heading for the UK next week – but that will only come clearer by the end of this week.

The potential good news was revealed by Huddersfield weather expert Paul Stevens who revealed that 14.88mm of rain fell on Huddersfield on Saturday and the usual rainfall for June would be around 65mm. It rained most of the day with some heavy downpours.

But May was a particularly wet month with 68mm of rain falling by May 8 and by the end of the month three times the monthly average rainfall – 180mm – had fallen.

Paul said: “At this time of year it’s not unusual to have 30mm of rain falling in a 24-hour period.”

“There will be sunny spells today (Mon) and tomorrow with the risk of showers and even thunderstorms and the most settled days will be Wednesday and Thursday due to high pressure with temperatures reaching 70°F but north and north-easterly winds will make the end of the week feel a bit chilly.”

Paul revealed that a Canadian weather model was showing there could be a heatwave heading for the UK for next week with temperatures in their 80s.

“Other models aren’t showing this though so it will be one to watch as this week progresses,” added Paul.
