SEPTEMBER brought a relatively dry end to Britain’s soggy summer.

A total of 44.4mm of rain fell during the month – significantly less than the average of 58.3mm for Septembers since 1990. Half the days were completely dry.

The average temperature of 14.24°C was only slightly lower than the 14.26°C average recorded for corresponding months in the previous 17 years.

Temperatures hit a high on September 6, peaking at 24.9°C.

The coldest temperature of 4.1°C was recorded on both September 17 and 29.

It came at the end of one of the wettest summers on record.

June saw a whopping 223mm of rainfall – four times the normal amount – making it the wettest on record.

July was the second wettest since records began, with just eight rain-free days.
