A soldier who has served time in Afghanistan and who is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder was remanded in custody by magistrates for breaching his bail conditions.

Dwayne Willie, 29, whose address was given as C/O Battlesbury Barracks, Wiltshire, was arrested on Thursday, after breaking his bail conditions not to contact Alaina Brown, the mother of his two-year-old daughter.

Sonia Kidd, who represented the defendant, told Kirklees Magistrates’ Court: “It’s accepted that there was contact between him and the complainant.

“There’s a long and complicated history between him and the complainant.”

She said the defendant, who has served more than one tour of Afghanistan was due to go to his barracks on Sunday.

She said he suffered from a degree of depression and anxiety and the “focus of his life was his two-year-old daughter”. She said the complainant had “taken advantage of his vulnerability.”

The chairman of the bench, Brian Castle, remanded the defendant in custody saying the bench could not be sure he would not commit further offences.

He said offences were committed while Willie was on bail from crown court.

Willie will appear at court via TV link again on April 16.
