A SOLDIER believed to be from Huddersfield has been killed in a road accident in Newcastle.

The unidentified 20-year-old man was hit by a car in the city in the early hours of Sunday on the Redheugh Bridge.

The man is believed to have climbed over the barrier between the footpath and the road, and into the path of a north-bound Skoda Octavia.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, died from his injuries.

Police in Newcastle are investigating the accident.
