A HOSPITAL consultant working in Kirklees is off to Afghanistan due to her double life.

Brigid Allagoa, 49, works in paediatrics at Dewsbury District Hospital.

But she is also a lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.

She has just gone on a three-month tour of duty in Afghanistan with her unit, 208 Field Hospital Volunteers, which is based in Liverpool.

It is the first time since the Second World War the unit has been used, although its members have often used as individuals and attached to other military units.

Lt-Col Allagoa served in Iraq for three months in 2004.

She studied medicine in Italy and trained in paediatrics in Liverpool.

She said: “I joined the TA about 11 years ago because I wanted to get involved in humanitarian aid work.

“I wanted to do my bit. My biggest wish is that one day I may be able to go back to Afghanistan and assist with humanitarian aid.

“This operational tour will give me good experience.’’
