A SCHOOL is trying to turn its former caretaker's house into a happy home.

But there's just one problem; nobody will take it on!

The empty three-bedroomed detached house is near the Winget Avenue entrance to Cowlersley Primary School grounds.

Governors and staff want to see it turned into a family home.

Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing had expressed an interest in the house.

But because the house belongs to Kirklees Council's education department KNH can do nothing until transfer and planning procedures have been completed.

So far, there has been no progress, which is frustrating the school's governors.

Governors' chairman Clr Robert Iredale said: "It is an eyesore.

"But it's structurally sound."

The house has been empty for seven years, since the previous caretaker left.

The current caretaker does not need the home and the school is not looking to use it for extra facilities.

Clr Iredale hopes a solution will be found soon.

He said: "This house could be of use to the community and ideal for a family with young children going to the school."

He is hoping for further talks with the council.
