SPANISH players took part in a padel tournament at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club (HLTSC) on Saturday.

The 18 players, from the Canary Islands, played some of the Edgerton club’s finest at padel – also known as ‘paddle tennis’ or ‘platform tennis’,

The sport is a cross between tennis and squash.

Padel, which uses stringless perforated bat-like racquets, or paddles, is popular in the Spanish speaking world and is rapidly growing in Europe.

HLTSC opened Britain’s first public padel courts last month.
