KIRKWOOD Hospice held its Summer Sparkle raffle to raise money for its patient care services.

The raffle, which ran from June to September, sold thousands of tickets and brought in thousands of pounds towards vital provisions for patients at the Dalton hospice.

Lucky Florence Moorhouse, 85, from Almondbury won the first prize of a week's holiday in a hotel of her choice, courtesy of Huddersfield travel agents Villaparade.

Great-grandma Mrs Moorhouse said: "I was gobsmacked.

"I've never won anything in my life. I've always entered competitions and won a bottle of wine. But I've never won anything worth anything."

Other prizes included a 20in LCD television, a day at York Racecourse, six months' membership of the Total Fitness gym, jewellery, beauty equipment and a DVD player.

Hospice fundraiser Kate Leadbeater said the raffle was a great success.

Ian Sheekey, co-owner of Villaparade, said: "We've supported Kirkwood for over 10 years. A couple of my relatives have had treatment there and I was impressed."

Winning raffle numbers were 115814, 085391, 033282, 137873, 126855, 113576 and 148052.
