Hundreds of families have been left disappointed when a top water attraction in Huddersfield had to shut.

The Splash Park at Huddersfield Leisure Centre was closed today for repairs, after two tiles worked loose.

It meant that many families who had booked in to enjoy a half-term treat were told their bookings had been cancelled.

All were offered full refunds or alternative dates.

It is the second time in the past six months that the pool has had to be closed. The first time was because one of the water features, an ornamental crab, had become loose.

A spokesman for Kirklees Active Leisure, who run the centre, said: “This time we found two tiles had worked loose on Wednesday evening.

“For health and safety reasons, we had to close the pool and the tiler is here now carrying out repairs.

“We could not risk anyone getting scratched or hurt in the pool.

“It is disappointing but we have texted, emailed or called everyone who made a booking to let them know”.

The Leisure Centre opened last summer to replace Huddersfield Sports Centre. It cost more than £34m.
