SCOUTS, Cubs and Beavers are appealing for help to rescue their HQ.

The Oakes Scout Group, which celebrated its 50th anniversary, last year, has already raised £10,000 but needs to more than double that figure to fully repair the hall, in Lyndhurst Avenue, Lindley.

The biggest problem is the hall's roof which needs to be totally replaced.

Cub Scout leader Steven Ainley, of Birchencliffe, said the group is planning fundraising events and hoping businesses will help them out.

"We are going to ask people to sponsor a tile for the roof," he said. "We are planning a big leaflet drop to promote this and hopefully the response will be positive.

"We are also looking at applying for grants, but it is difficult because of the number of people with equally good causes applying as well.

"The roof is a major problem and it has got to the stage now where we need to get it fixed. That will be the first thing, but we still need to raise another £4,000.

"In total we need about £25,000 to bring the hall up to scratch.

"Anyone who can help by donating time or money please get in touch."
