A SPECIAL soccer visitor handed over a fitness award to Stile Common Junior School.

Huddersfield Town captain Rob Edwards visited the Newsome school to present an Activemark Gold award.

Activemark Gold, run by Sport England, recognises schools for providing a wide range of physical activities.

The awards are only open to primary schools and are valid for three years.

Stile Common Junior School already had the standard Activemark award, but was given the gold honour because of its further work to offer even more sports opportunities to pupils.

The school now has a wide variety of PE activities during lesson time.

It also has school clubs including rugby, table-tennis, netball, cricket, dance, modern dance and Indian dance.

PE co-ordinator Margaret Rogers said: "We are very pleased that we have got the gold award and the children were really excited to meet Rob."
