A YORKSHIRE Television sports presenter wants to fight the Colne Valley seat for the Conservatives at the next General Election.

Jason McCartney spent 10 years in the RAF before training as a journalist.

He will be one of two contenders who will go before a meeting of voters next Thursday.

The other is Ben Jefferies, a history and politics teacher at Warwick School.

The man who will stand at the election will be picked at hustings which non-Tories can attend.

Every voter living in the constituency can go along to the meeting at the Pennine Manor Hotel, Scapegoat Hill.

People must pre-register for the meeting by 5pm today to attend.

The Tories will be challenging to take Colne Valley from Labour's Kali Mountford. Her majority was whittled down to 1,501 by a 3.4% swing to the Conservatives at the election in 2005.
