VETERAN actress June Whitfield is in the spotlight tomorrow.

And part of the TV special profiling her distinguished career focuses on Huddersfield.

The actress who is now a regular in the hit TV comedy Last Of The Summer Wine meets Melvyn Bragg.

The South Bank Show tomorrow evening sees him chatting to the veteran actress as she reminisces about her long career.

A look through June’s scrapbook reveals stage performances in her 20s, through to radio fame.

She then became a regular in the Carry On films and TV roles that paired her with some of the UK’s best-loved comedy stars.

She was, of course, best known for two roles – opposite Terry Scott in the long-running sitcom Terry and June and later starring with Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous.

She is now one of the cast of Summer Wine and much of the filming for that record-breaking show brings her to Huddersfield.

She was a guest at the Central Lodge Hotel while filming and hotel partner Joe Marsden was there when the South Bank cameras turned up.

“They did a lot of the filming in our conservatory.

“June was there, along with Kenneth Cope, who starred in Randall and Hopkirk Deceased, John Challis (Boycie from Only Fools and Horses) and Bert Kwouk, from Summer Wine.

“It was a great day and everyone was in a good mood.

“I even got a walk-on part, serving drinks to June and her guests.”.

The show is on ITV1 at 10.45pm tomorrow.
