A HUDDERSFIELD man aged 46 posed as a teenager on a social network site to meet youngsters.

And a court heard he met up with a 16-year-old girl and took indecent photos of her at a Leeds hotel and in woodland at Rastrick.

The man’s activities only came to light after his step-daughter discovered he was using a spy pen to film her in the bathroom of their home last year.

During a police investigation it was found that the defendant, who had no previous convictions, had also covertly filmed his own wife and two other teenage girls who had been staying at the family home.

Prosecutor Jayne Beckett told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that the man, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of his victims, contacted the 16-year-old via MSN messaging and told her he was 19.

The man said he would pay the girl if she let him take photographs of her and he eventually told her he was 37 or 38 years old.

Mrs Beckett said the girl felt angry about the lies but still arranged to meet with him.

It was in 2008 that the defendant picked up the girl in his car and during a trip to the White Rose shopping complex he bought her underwear, clothes and a mobile phone for use in the “shoot”.

The girl was also given £50 in cash and the man bought alcohol for her.

Mrs Beckett said the girl drank alcohol during the one-hour session which took place at a nearby hotel.

A few weeks later they met up again and the girl was taken to a wooded area near to an estate in Rastrick.

Mrs Beckett said the girl did not feel comfortable as the man took naked and provocative photos of her in the woods and that incident only lasted about 20 minutes.

After she got dressed the man paid her £25.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the victim had tried to put the incidents to the back of her mind and now felt sick and disgusted by them.

The defendant pleaded guilty to a series of charges including voyeurism, taking indecent images and possessing indecent images.

The court heard that the images of the 16-year-old were found on a memory stick and other images, including footage from the spy pen camera, were stored on two portable hard-drives which were later handed to the police by the defendant’s wife.

The defendant, who has since moved to Bradford, was described by Judge Peter Benson as someone who held a responsible job.

“You were clearly a man with ability unfortunately you had another side to you which is reflected in your case by these offences,” said the judge.

“It is clear to me that you had a sexual interest in voyeuristic activities with young girls and by and large the offences of voyeurism were committed against young girls towards whom you should have exercised protection rather abuse and you were in a position of trust in relation to them.”

Jailing the man for a total of 18 months Judge Benson said he had lied to the 16-year-old about his age and he had “corrupted” her by plying her with alcohol and giving her cash and clothes to get her to pose sexually for him.

The court heard victim statements from the man’s wife and stepdaughter and the judge said it was clear that his activities had had a significant detrimental impact on their lives.

“The nature and extent of your activities and the aggravating features in the sense of breach of trust and the exploiting of (the 16-year-old) mean that a prison sentence of immediate effect must be passed.”

The defendant will also have to register as a sex offender with the police for the next 10 years.
