An inquest into the death of Huddersfield builder Sean Annandale has heard he died from severe blood loss after being stabbed in the heart.

Mr Annandale, 22, of Bay Close, Lindley, died at 3.12am on Sunday August 23 following a disturbance in Golcar.

Det Insp Mark Swift, of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, told the hearing at Bradford Coroner’s Court that police were called out to a house in Elmfield Avenue, Golcar, at 2am after a number of calls.

Mr Swift said: “Police attended and found Mr Annandale had suffered a number of stab wounds. He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but sadly he passed away at 3.12am.

“Officers identified a number of people involved in the incident and a 17-year-old youth was charged with murder and remanded in custody.

“A further male who is alleged to have driven him from the scene has been charged with assisting an offender and remanded in custody.

“Both males are due to attend Leeds Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on November 25 with a potential trial due to take place at the end of February or March.”

Mr Swift said that on the afternoon of August 23 pathologist Kirsten Hope had carried out a post-mortem examination which revealed Mr Annadale had suffered four stab wounds, three to the chest and one to the thigh.

He said: “Unfortunately one of the stab wounds had penetrated right to the heart and death was due to severe blood loss.”

Mr Swift said Dr Carl Gray conducted a further post-mortem on behalf of the defendants and had come to similar conclusions.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

West Yorkshire coroner Martin Fleming offered his condolences to the three female members of Mr Annandale’s family who attended the inquest.

“It’s a desperately sad case,” he said. “Can I give to you my sincerest personal sympathies and please pass them on to any of the close family members who are suffering from this devastating loss.”
