RAM raiders were thwarted when they tried to force their way into a Huddersfield pub.

They rammed a vehicle at least twice into the Ropewalk pub next to the Galpharm Stadium.

The first time bollards stopped the vehicle in its tracks as they tried to reach the main doors.

The second time they smashed into wooden panels at the front of the pub - but there was a large radiator behind that part of wall which again stopped them.

The radiator was knocked off the wall and caused water damage inside the pub.

When police arrived the would-be intruders had gone, but the trail of damage at the scene means the vehicle will be damaged at the front.

No vehicle was seen, so it is not known whether it was a van or a car.

Det Con Dave Kinghorn, of Kirklees Police intelligence unit, said: "It may be the vehicle was badly damaged and abandoned nearby.

"If anyone finds a vehicle with front end damage they should call us immediately.

"We would also urge anyone who saw anything suspicious on Stadium Way to contact us."
