A knifeman threatened staff at Costa Coffee’s Leeds Road outlet this morning.

The drive-thru store was targetted at around 6.10am as staff were opening up.

The man is thought to have approached staff and produced the knife before demanding cash.

Terrified staff handed over a small quantity of cash and the man fled.

Another one of the workers, on seeing what had happened chased the man but he made off.

Police were called and the store was temporarily closed. Staff were shaken but uninjured.

Officers carried out a search of the area and a 28-year-old man has subsequently been arrested.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Huddersfield CID, said: “A male threatened members of staff and stole a quantity of cash.

“One of the staff chased the suspect. Police were called. A man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.”
