Festival organisers delighted

ORGANISERS of the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival are delighted at how well this year's contest has been received.

The eight-day contest comes to an end tomorrow with the usual spectacular gala concert in Huddersfield Town Hall.

Festival president Jessie Jameson said that this year the standard of the competition, now in its 118th year, was higher than ever.

She added: "The standard has been higher this year. It gets higher and higher each year. The talent is amazing.

"We have had a really good turnout this year, particularly for some of the younger classes.

"I think it's the best festival around.

"We're so fortunate because we have a beautiful town hall and a beautiful concert piano and the acoustics are wonderful.

"The town hall staff have been so helpful.

"There have been some outstanding performances and the gala concert should be a wonderful night."

Yesterday the James Bond theme and the title music from Ground Force were just some of the entertaining music filling the town hall.

Audiences enjoyed performances from musicians in the wind, brass and string, band and orchestra classes. Today classes will include duo and instrumental and young and adult choirs.
