RISING singing star Sasha Woodhead will feature on the soundtrack of a major new British movie.

Sasha, 14, of Netherton, has been chasing the dream of a singing career since she was 11.

Using the stage name Sasha Armani, she has sung on the Huddersfield music scene, appeared on Stars in their Eyes Kids as Britney Spears and performed at the 2003 Huddersfield Examiner Community Awards Ceremony.

Now, she has recorded the track Girl On A Mission for a new film, Tooth, which is released on Friday, February 13.

The children's film is a fantasy tale about a sassy tooth fairy.

The cast includes stars such as Harry Enfield, Richard E Grant, Vinnie Jones and Stephen Fry.

Sasha will get to meet them all when she attends the film's premiere in London on February 8.

She said: "It will be so great. It is a fun film. The song Girl On A Mission is really uplifting too, a mixture of rock and pop. It was so different and I really liked it."

Sasha got the big break after a friend introduced her to the man in charge of Tooth's soundtrack.

She was asked to Olympic Studios in London and was given the song.

She heard the track only twice before being asked to record it there and then.

She said: "At that point I didn't know much about the film, or that the song would be on the soundtrack. It was my first time in a major studio and it was a big deal for me. I didn't expect any of it at all - it just shows getting opportunities is about who you know."

One of the highlights of the trip was spotting rock star Eric Clapton in the studio.

Sasha said: "We couldn't believe it. Loads of famous people go there - Madonna and Britney recorded their duet there the day after me!"

Sasha will be spending more time in the studio later this year, when she records her first album.

She said she wants to finish the album before searching for a record deal.

She said: "It will have about 12 or 13 songs. I have heaps of lyrics written, some I am really proud of. I will be co-writing the album - I have never written one before so I will need some help.

"For years I have been singing other people's songs and I was bored of that. Finally I'm getting to sing my own songs. Performing them will be the best."

She said performing music was her first love but she might consider an acting career in future.

"I would maybe try acting in a few years. But right now, singing is my priority," she said.

"Performing live in front of a crowd is what I love best. It is a big adrenaline rush."

2004 is set to be a busy year for Sasha.

As well as recording an album and travelling regularly to studios in London, she also has to take her GCSEs in April.

She said: "I always hated school, there was not enough time to do things I enjoyed. Now I have a home tutor and my grades have shot up - I'm taking my exams early. It's going to be a busy year."
