POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a railway worker at a station.

And officers believe passengers from the Huddersfield area can help.

The incident happened at 6.40pm last Sunday at Manchester Piccadilly.

The 49-year-old victim, a man from South Yorkshire, was allegedly assaulted by two men, receiving cuts, bruises and bite marks to his head and face.

Two men from the Manchester area were arrested.

Police are now trying to track down passengers who boarded the 18.42 Piccadilly to Middlesbrough train.

British Transport Police’s Pc Nigel Tomlinson said: “A number of people who were on, or boarding, this train saw the incident and will have vital information for the investigation.

“The train left just after, so we were unable to speak to any of these witnesses.

“The train stopped at Huddersfield, so if you were on the train please ring BTP on Freefone 0800 405040, quoting incident number 301 of 10/02/08.’’
