Actor and comedian Stephen Fry is helping a Huddersfield-based youth cancer charity by donating an autographed Paul Smith tie to be sold at auction.

The QI host and celebrity Twitter user donated the tie from his personal collection to the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust.

The charity funds research into cancer affecting 13 to 24-year-olds.

Mr Fry’s tie is being auctioned online as part of eBay’s Big Charity 50 campaign.

He said: “I am so proud to support the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust and all that they do for young people, their families and friends through trying and upsetting times.

“I am continuously amazed by the kindness and cheerfulness shown by the trust, which adds an extra mile to everything they do.”

Pam Thornes, trust manager, said: “Without support from the eBay community and celebrities like Stephen Fry, we would not be able to fund such vital, life-changing, medical research into cancers affecting young people.

“eBay For Charity has joined the fight against cancer in young people and has changed our charity for the better - we cannot ever thank them enough.”

Bidding for the item is open until September 1 and currently stands at 204. The winning bidder will also receive a personalised photograph and note from Fry.
