COUCH potatoes are being urged to drag themselves out of the armchair and take a step towards a healthier lifestyle.
The First Foot Forward programme aims to get people across Kirklees to walk or cycle more often.
The free programme of short events between May 1 and 9 is aimed at people who are not used to being active.
Helen Heaton, Active for Life co-ordinator for Kirklees Council, said: "First Foot Forward is all about trying something new and hopefully encouraging people to get into the habit of being a little active in the outdoors."
The walk and cycle rides will only last about 30 minutes, will be on fairly flat ground and will be taken at a relaxed pace with short stops.
Other planned events include walks in Wilton Park, Batley, a wander in Birkby, a talk on allotment gardening, cycling in the Spen Valley and orienteering in Greenhead Park.
