A man lost his temper and swore at McDonald’s staff after they got his burger order wrong.

Stewart Pember admitted using threatening behaviour towards the two female workers at the drive-though restaurant on Leeds Road in Huddersfield.

Kirklees magistrates heard that the incident happened at just before 5pm on October 17.

Pember, of Ruskin Grove, Sheepridge, made a complaint about his order being incorrect and was asked to staff to wait in a parking bay while this was resolved.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was not happy and began swearing at the first member of staff, Ghazal Keynejad, who was trying to deal with the issue.

“He got out of his vehicle, stepped up to the serving window and carried on swearing and shouting.

“The second person, Charlotte Craven, became involved and he swore at them.

“He was calling them stupid b*****s.”

Magistrates were told that due to the time of the day, many families were at the restaurant and witnessed Pember’s ranting.

Mr Bozman added: “The complainants felt intimidated as a result of this behaviour, which lasted around five minutes.

“He was aggressive and Miss Craven said she was concerned he was going to hurt somebody. “It was a busy time and there were lots of children inside.

“The complainant said: ‘Nobody has the right to intimidate me or cause customers alarm’.”

Sonia Kidd, mitigating, said that her client became upset when staff put onions on his burger when he asked for none.

She added that Pember, who was disruptive throughout the court proceedings, had suffered difficulties since a road traffic accident.

Mrs Kidd said: “He’s easily pushed over the edge and his tolerance level isn’t what it used to be.

“The food was not what he’d ordered, he asked for his money back and was getting frustrated as he felt they weren’t seeking to deal with him.”

“He only wanted a simple refund and feels that the service he received was inappropriate, particularly with the adage the customer is always right.”

Magistrates gave 30-year-old Pember a conditional discharge but ordered him to pay £50 compensation to each of the victims.

He also has to pay £100 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Pember swore and told magistrates prior to storming out of the courtroom: “I’m refusing to accept that punishment.

“I’ll rob it and pay for it that way.”
