POLICE have admitted they have drawn a blank in their bid to identify a man found dead in Huddersfield.

Detectives had hoped releasing an E-fit image of the man pulled from the River Colne would help their inquiries.

But four weeks after his body was found, they are still unable to identify him.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are leading the hunt.

They do not know exactly how or where he died but are not treating the death as suspicious.

The man was found in the River Colne running through the sprawling Syngenta complex on September 14.

Staff at the plant spotted the man. It is believed the body had floated down the river for more than a week before it was spotted by the worker.

Police believe the man may be of Lithuanian background.

He was described as white, European and possibly aged between 30 and 40.

He was 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build and with short cropped light brown hair. He had a ginger moustache and close cropped beard.

He was wearing a bracelet containing Lithuanian writing on it which translates to: “Sport – yes, drugs – no.”

He had no obvious injuries or identifying features like old scars or tattoos.

Police have appealed to anyone in Huddersfield who knows anyone who matches this description to contact them.

They have also directed the appeal to the town’s small Lithuanian community in the hope that someone may be able to help.

Anyone who thinks they know this man is asked to contact police on 101.

Facilities are available for those who do not speak English as a first language.
