SHOPPERS are being asked to think about recycling at a Huddersfield store.

Asda supermarket at Bradford Road, Brackenhall, is taking part in the chain's nationwide Big Recycle event, running until Friday.

Judith Alderman, events co-ordinator at the Huddersfield store, said: "We need to increase the amount of rubbish that is recycled, because we cannot carry on burying and burning rubbish forever.

"Asda's Big Recycle event focuses on increasing the awareness of our customers and their children to the environmental benefits of recycling waste materials, especially packaging."

Customers who use plastic carrier bags are being invited to help Asda reach its target of recycling 283 million of them.

They are also encouraged to recycle many other items at the store's recycling centre, including glass, cans, clothing, shoes and paint.

The store is hosting several events this week to encourage people to take up recycling. They include a safari trail around the store and a free draw to win a family day at a safari park.
