A WOMAN stole clothes from a shop while ‘hazy’ on medication, a court heard.
Paula Sutherland, of Old Bank Road in Mirfield, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.
She admitted the theft from Marks & Spencer on April 15.
Magistrates heard that the 43-year-old walked into the New Street branch at lunchtime.
She selected £142 worth of clothes and footwear before walking out of the shop without paying.
A store detective stopped Sutherland nearby and the goods were returned to the store.
Paul Blanchard, mitigating, said that his client fully co-operated with staff.
He said that she was heavily medicated and having a particularly hazy day.
Mr Blanchard said: “She understands that the circumstances suggest that she’s stolen the items.
“She’s gone and picked the items up and left in absence of formalising the deal.”
Magistrates gave Sutherland a conditional discharge. She was told to pay £85 costs and £15 victim surcharge.
