A HUDDERSFIELD store has a new canine mascot.

Bumble, a Leonburger bitch, popped in to introduce herself to staff and customers at the Sainsbury’s Market Street store.

The pooch will help the supermarket with fundraising activities.

She takes over duties from fundraising giant, Otto, who died last month after helping the store raise thousands of pounds.

Bumble, eight, is a registered Pets As Therapy dog and has been trained to enable her to visit residential homes, hospitals and similar venues.

She is owned by cashier Susan Elliot. Bumble’s first official appearance as mascot will be at the supermarket’s St George’s Day celebrations.

Leonburger dogs originate from Germany and were developed by the Mayor of Leonberg by mating existing dogs with Pyrenean Mountain Dogs and St Bernards.
