THE volunteer group engaged on a massive restoration programme at a 29-acre Victorian Park in Huddersfield have come up with an innovative fund-raising scheme.

Friends of Beaumont Park are seeking anecdotes from people who have visited the park over past decades and hope their memories will help provide a touch of nostalgia in a forthcoming book of recipes.

“There must be hundreds of people in our town with fond memories of our beautiful park and as we continue to restore some of its former glory we must continue with our fund-raising to help us do this,” said a spokesman.

Restoration of the pond and cascade feature on the main drive, work on Victorian gates at the ornate gateway at the lower end of the park and a massive on-going clearing operation have been rewarded this year by large numbers of visitors to the various attractions arranged by the dedicated Friends.

There has also been a good response to the initiative to create a special memorial book with details of trees planted in memory of a loved one.
