GRAFFITI artists, breakdancers, skaters and rappers will descend on Huddersfield’s Greenhead Park next month at an event for young people.

Jam In 2 The Park will take place on Sunday, August 19, as part of this year’s Lark In The Park, organised by Kirklees Council.

Professional graffiti artists, beatboxers, skateboarders, basketball players, rappers, breakdancers and bodypoppers will be there.

A big white board will be filled with graffiti art on the theme of educating young people about drugs.

The completed boards will be displayed on the town centre Piazza in the weeks after the event and will then be loaned out to local youth clubs.

Beatboxers will demonstrate the art of creating rhythms and melodies using the human voice rather than instruments, while breakdancers will be staging a dance-off.

As well as watching the displays young people will be able to have a go themselves.

For three weeks after the event workshops will run every Sunday in Greenhead Park by the owners of Endemic Skatewear.

Jam In 2 The Park has been organised by the Drug Service for Young People. who will be there with advice and to answer questions.

The event has also been supported by Kirklees Neighbourhood Renewal, The Help Service, Beaumont Street Studios, Suga Brown dance school, Nike, Dulux and King’s Mill Carpets.

The whole event will be filmed by Beaumont Street Studios and the film will be shown at the Odeon cinema, next to the Galpharm Stadium.
