A SCHOOL is in mourning after the sudden death of one of its pupils.

Popular Alesha Thomas, 15, had just finished her GCSEs at All Saints Catholic College at Bradley Bar and had been due to take part in Saturday’s Caribbean Carnival through Huddersfield town centre.

But she was suddenly taken ill at home in the early hours of last Wednesday morning and died later at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

An inquest was due to open at Bradford Coroners’ Court today.

All Saints headteacher Miss Mary Nixon said: “Alesha had just finished her GCSEs and was a very popular student with us. She was very much loved in school and so many wonderful things have been said about her.

“It’s been a huge shock to the school community and the news has left us devastated.’’

Many of Alesha’s friends from Year 11 have returned to school to remember Alesha by spending time in the school chapel.

A special Mass to celebrate her life will be held in school in September.

Miss Nixon added: “Alesha was due to have taken part in the Caribbean Carnival and some of her friends at the event wore T-shirts to remember her.’’

She lived on Buckrose Street in Fartown with her mum, Rose, and was one of three children.
